Subspecies: Acinonyx Jubatus Jubatus

Sibella was captured and tortured by hunters when she was 2, she was rescued and was treated. Then she was released into the Samara Private game reserve. She was the first cheetah to ever be released into wild. She reared 19 cubs in 4 litters in her life and increased the cheetah population in South Africa by 3%. She was able to hunt at a ripe age of 14 but it became very clear that she was barely able to hunt as she was fatally injured by a duiker and died in 2015.

New Cheetah Male in Sopa

Some cheetahs are territorial while others are nomadic. Male cheetah coalitions manage to hold territories, whereas singletons become floaters, covering large areas. From time to time the balance of power changes, and new strong coalitions force out old males and singletons. In some areas of the Mara, coalition has successfully shared territory with single males, alternating visits to certain areas. At Sopa, two males – Kisaru and Kingamu have been holding the area from July 2016. After Kingamu disappeared in 2018, it became difficult for the remaining male (who had a serious eye injury) to hold a territory. As a result, by the end of 2018, this coalition has been replaced by a new coalition of two young males, who came from Serengeti. In addition, in December 2018, a new very shy adult male started exploring Sopa area. This increases the chances of the Mara females to choose partners for breeding.

Mr. Special has been the dominant male cheetah in Kwara Private Reserve, Okavango delta for many years (around 8 years). He likes to climb tall trees like a leopard which is why he was named Mr. Special. He has been recorded crossing deep water with no difficulties.

Siligi is Olpadan's sister. She had 7 cubs in 2019 but lost 6 of them. In 2021 she was seen with 5 cubs but lost one to a lioness.

Location: Tehran Pardisan Zoo, previously City of Bafq (wild)

A family of was seized by fearful people, one cub was; the mother escaped and ran way. This cub is Marita. Marita was rescued and was sent to Tehran Zoo. Marita inspired Mohammad Farhadinia and ICS (Iranian Cheetah Society) to research and conserve asiatic cheetahs.

"The idea for studying on the cheetahs came about in fall 1996 when I met Marita, a young female Iranian

cheetah in Pardisan Zoo, Tehran, for the first time. She was rescued from a tragedy in the city of Bafq in
which her young sisters were killed due to unawareness by local people. At that time, the cheetah was one of
the least known species of Iran and almost, there was no data about it in the country, which encouraged me
to abandon medical sciences after 3 years and switching to study wildlife sciences at the university. I would
like to dedicate this work to that cheetah, Marita."

The Mara Meru Cheetah project named this cheetah Honey. Photographer Federico named her Honey. Honey gave birth to 3 cubs in around 2002. She and her cubs got infected with mange. After treatment from the Masai mara vet, due to unknown reasons she forgot her cubs and abandoned them. Later she was seen with one cub in 2005 who was named Toto. Toto went missing overnight after a storm and was not found again. She gave birth to 4 cubs, lost one of them. The 3 surviving cubs were known as M1, M2 and M3; all males. Honey died in 2007 when a vet attempted to tranquilize her inorder to treat her injured cub, the dart instead of hitting a muscle pierced her stomach which was fatal. After honey's death her 3 cubs formed a coalition, they were called the Honey Boys after this.

Honey boys is the name of the coalition which consisted of M1, M2 and M3. After their mother's death, these 3 males formed a strong bond which helped them survive. In 2010 they were around 4 years of age and were a formidable coalition being able to take down topi, wildebeest and zebra. In 2011 M2 died due to lion attacks and 2013 M1 died due to lion attacks. M3 was last seen at December of 2013.

Status: Unknown (probably deceased)

The five musketeers coalition is one of largest coalitions recorded in masai mara. It is uncertain who was the leader of this coalition. This coalition probably consisted of males from 3 different mothers. The five musketeers had a high hunting success rate and were also able to hunt large prey.
