RE: Overrated size of Munna aka Langda of Kanha National Park - Pckts - 07-18-2014

Munna is said to be 250kg or above, which seems to be reasonable.
Remember when comparing him to that female, She is said to be a abnormally large female, if you look at old pictures of her, she had a huge frame, tall and long.

So Munna could be much more massive than that even.

Here was their response when I asked if he had seen munna and waghdoh in person and how they would match up.
    1. I haven't seen Wagdoh in person, but my observation is that Munna is taller, longer and bigger than Wagdoh in all departments, even though relative to his smaller size, Wagdoh is slightly bulkier though nowhere near as muscular as Munna. I also know two experienced photographers who have seen both Wagdoh and Munna several times. Both of them said Munna was the largest, he was HUGE. In fact, one look at the 2 photos of Munna above should give one a good idea on the scale of his size. Between Wagdoh and Shivaji if you have heard of Shivaji, Wagdoh is no doubt the taller, bulkier and larger of the 2. Shivaji appears longer due to shorter height. Photographers who have seen both generally agree on Wagdoh being the bigger one. Shivaji is about the same size as Katezari male, which is also a short-height tiger.Like · 11 hrs

    3.
    4.  If you check out waghdoh walking in front of the jeeps, you see how tall he really is. He also goes through skinnier phases where he is much more lean and muscular compared to times when he was just massive. Wagdoh definitely has a larger neck and probably a larger chest, but munna is definitely a more muscularly defined cat, from the images i have seen, I would still rank Waghdoh ahead of munna but both are massive cats either way. Shivaji is a massive cat as well, but you're right about his height, but he's built like a tank. I am curious how Raja stacks up, he seems to be a extremely tall cat and very muscular. Thanks for your time.

Don't worry copters, I'm still with you in regards to Waghdoh. Until I hear about a eye witness account of both, waghdoh and munna, I will not believe munna is larger than waghdoh.

That settles this for me, Munna is a massive cat by any means. He is one of my favorites, that's for sure.
Look how thick and muscular he is. I never saw that pic of him and the female together.
TBH, Tigers of Kahna's descriptions of munna and waghdoh seem to be fairly reasonable. I still think waghdoh in his prime, was larger though.

RE: Overrated size of Munna aka Langda of Kanha National Park - GuateGojira - 07-18-2014

Mmmmm, from what I have saw here, all the famous large tigers in India probably weight between 240 - 260 kg empty, at this time. Maybe Wadogh could weight a little more, up to 270 -280 kg and the Kaziranga giants up to 300 kg in the BEST case only. But normally, a dominant male tiger of 260 kg is already a very large specimen by any standard.

About the body size, I think is very hard to say, as a heavy male could be of just 190 cm in head-body! Sauraha, for example, was only 197 cm but weighed 260 kg, while Dasa from Nagarahole, was of 204 cm but only 227 kg. Taking in count that all these large Indian males seems comparable to the large Amur tigers captured in the field, in body length, I could estimate a body-length of 190 - 205 cm for them, taken in straight line.

This is the problem with the estimations and like Peter said, even experts can't guess correctly the size of these cats, in some occasions.

It doesn't get any realer than that but sadly we have some experts sitting on youtube and faceook, guessing the size of paws, neck, body length, tail, chest girth and even the weight.. these are the people that mislead others.

Quote:Lastly, you agree with Kshitij ?

Really, they just said bamera is up there with Waghdoh. Which we all know is not true, considering the many eye witnesses who say Waghdoh is far larger than bamera.

I don't agree with him on that, Bamera was heavy but Wagdoh is on a whole new level of heavy.

This guy you're quoting is a moron, He hasn't even seen Wagdoh and he's making up stuff about experienced photographers. If i go ahead and post this discussion at the Tadoba Andhari Facebook network. people are going to laugh. I know the resort owners at Tadoba and Bandhavgarh, a few regulars at Kanha and a handful of other people that i have been in contact with since my time in 2006. this guy is all hot air, Katezari is a tall bulky male who also dwarfed Saturn's height standing next to him. I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Now we know Saturn is no average tiger, He's big, tall and Muscular.. now let's compare him to Katezari male

Finally we agree that Munna is nowhere near Wagdoh's potential or size, these Munna fanboys and the page on Facebook is run by fanatics and I've history with all of them. back in 2006, I moderated the Orkut group called "Save the Tiger" and it had about 14,000 members and over there. I had Kshitij and about dozens of people under me. Once the group died, I ventured out to AVA and started getting into heated debates with Lion Fans. basically, I've been through everything and survived. the reason why i'm still posting is because i am passionate about tigers and will continue to do what i do best. this is all out of Passion for me and when i see morons like these misinforming and overrating Tigers, I'll stand up and show their real faces.

Wagdoh makes all his females look like little cubs next to him, Munna doesn't have the capability and never did. Munna's size is overrated. Sure Munna is arguably the most dominant male from Kanha but his size was never all that special, plenty of males from Kanha were larger than him. Naak katta and Pattewala specially.

I am done here.

Wait, could you go over who is who again? One of the males looked larger than the other by a good margin.

Thanks. Saturn looks a quite dimension larger. Do you think that's just camera angle as I've read that Katezari is a bit bigger?

RE: Overrated size of Munna aka Langda of Kanha National Park - Roflcopters - 07-19-2014

Pckt's facebook tiger expert claims Katezari has a short height.. the same group of people mysteriously know about Kanha tiger Pad widths. (refer to the picture below)

yet there is no record of it anywhere.. He even figured out the size of Munna's paws by looking at the leafs around him. someone give this guy a genius award. LOL

Katezari the bigger male in the back and Saturn is attacking.

RE: Overrated size of Munna aka Langda of Kanha National Park - Pckts - 07-19-2014

No picture you posted does anything to discredit Munna. He looks far more massive than saturn or katezari, that picture also shows katezari as being more massive but shorter than saturn.
The females with the males look no different than munna with his females. In fact, munna dwarfing the Link 7 female is more impressive than any of the other females because her size is noted by quite a few people and she looks like a cub next to munna.
Im sorry, but every picture you show, munna matches up just fine.
To try and say Munna is "overrated" is splitting hairs. His size is confirmed with females, jeeps and eye witness accounts. From all over, show me where people say Munna to be smaller than the other males, because from everything I can find, I see nothing of that sort.

Saturn looked taller throughout, but Katezari was more heavy built. Shows that Katezari isn't abnormally tall but more robust.
