RE: Mangheni Pride - Duco Ndona - 11-13-2022

Ultimately, if OM roamed around a bit before becoming territorial, he would perhaps have been able to find coalition partners.
He would also have learned that messing with larger coalitions is a bad idea and he would still be alive.

Moving around is problematic. But it's also something that all prides do to be able to find food and avoid problems. The only difference between the Mhangeni and other prides is that the others mostly circle around in a smaller area. So I doubt it explains the death of the cubs.
Besides, they would have likely moved less around if they had the backing of male lions to keep the PC males and hyenas at bay.

Ultimately, the Mhangeni needed a strong coalition of multiple male lions to provide secure enviroment for the cubs to survive. OM, being a solo young inexperienced male just wasnt enough. While its true we cant exactly blame OM for being OM. Its also in my eyes incorrect to say it wasnt a big factor in the loss of the cubs.

PC males nor Nwalungu males never interacted or threatned Mhangenis cubs when OM was alive, in fact OM chased them both few times.

Well, that goes for every pride, hardly OM's fault that he was solo male.

Most of those cubs went missing after his demise, not when he was alive.

You could say that its him to "blame" that he got killed, as that killed his offspring eventually, but when he was alive, you cant blame him for losing the cubs, as he did the best what lone male can do.

RE: Mangheni Pride - Duco Ndona - 11-14-2022

Yes we cant blame OM personally. He did the best he could to his abilities and wasnt out to kill his cubs.

All I am saying is that the Mhangeni needed a bigger more experienced coalition than what OM could offer at the time.

She literally pissed herself. As would anyone/anything that looked round to see that a male lion had sneaked up on them.

RE: Mangheni Pride - Duco Ndona - 11-22-2022

Its a survival trick. An empty bladder runs easier and male lions have a natural interest in urine.
