RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - Tshokwane - 07-22-2016 Rekero Camp: We are not sure how Scarface sustained the new injury/wound but most likely he was involved in a fight with either females or another coalition of males(last week the musketeeers had crossed over to Rongai area)...wish him quick recovery.... photo credits onesmus *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author And maybe the answer to that might be this, that happened yesterday...Credits to Freeman Safaris. *This image is copyright of its original author Clearly, Scar is a lion that doesn't waste time when it comes to ladies, even ramming over his brothers to get what he wants. RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - Gamiz - 07-25-2016 We got lucky this morning with a sighting of Scarface and his two Marsh pride brothers. They had killed a wildebeest and were chomping happily on it. Two of the brothers finished and parked themselves under a nearby tree. When Scarface came to rest with them, he may have stood on a foot or a tail and a fight erupted. Unfortunately the large brewing wildebeest herd we had anticipated might cross later, quickly came to an abrupt halt. All action subsided and that was the end of any impending crossing. The rest of the day was spent wandering along the banks of the Mara River which was infested with many pods of hippoes. Towards camp we came upon three sub adult lions who were clearly now out on their own. New members of the Rekero Pride I am thinking. Tomorrow we cross over into Serengeti....onward we safari :-) Credits to Robyn E. Preston Wildlife Photography *This image is copyright of its original author

RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - Gamiz - 07-29-2016 From Matira Magazin Scarface The scars of the lions evidence of bloody conflicts - of rival fights among neighbors of the dispute over the spoils and also something quite different - rather opposites: of passion. *This image is copyright of its original author Just as Scarface calmly resting in tall grass here, with scratches on the nose, a swollen eye, still showing quite clearly that the scar dermal tissue will never heal completely. This is a common sight of lions in the Maasai Mara. For example during mating season there is always the risk to get at least a few new scars from females while mating. The females are not just devoted and affectionate during lovemaking. It is just the opposite. Once the act is done, quickly enough, they don’t like to be disturbed for a while. A sharp claw or quick bite and happiness is gone, that the big cats can have up to fifteen times in a short time. No wonder that their faces are decorated with such scars. *This image is copyright of its original author The injury of Scarface is probably from a fight for food with a lioness. *This image is copyright of its original author In July 2011, the wound was fresh. 2014 it seemed to be healed, but now for the last months, it enlarged further. Veterinarians tried to treat the wound several times in the past - but no success. Currently they cannot do anything, because the lion was stunned very often and more treatments would be critical for Scarface health at the moment.
