Speaking of new cubs anything on the tsalala female?

RE: N'waswitshaka males - Mapokser - 06-16-2024

Yeah, 2 new cubs in the Ntsevu pride.

K6 is massive, a shame she can't pass her amazing genes.

Still nothing ? On the possible new cubs?

The lioness has not have cubs. K6 must be. I had a question in the Kambula pride when the 6 sisters were together; was this lioness dominant most of the time?

Yea K6 is big, but this is a bit of camera angle and their position aswell.

When walking towards camera, K6 is clearly closer to the camera and on higher ground compared to OE (look their pawn height position), so she appears bigger then she actually is.

If they would both be on same distance from camera and on same ground lvl, size diff wouldnt be that noticable.

She's still a big girl.  It's rare for a lioness to be that close in size to a dominant male, and she's been seen alongside almost all of them in Sabi, and the same comparisons fly every single time.  At some point we have to say that camera angle is one thing, but she is a VERY big lioness.  I wonder if her size and her infertility are somehow related.

Yes she is, i think thats not even a question anymore, im just saying its a bit of camera ilusion aswell on this footage.

Some females, just like males, are bigger, some smaller.

RE: N'waswitshaka males - adamstocks16 - 06-16-2024

There is no doubt K6 is a bigger than average lioness, and the point regarding her infertility might be a valid one. Something similar occurred with the Notch coalition in Maasai Mara. One of the five sons ‘Caesar’ lost one of his testicles and after this he noticeably gained quite a lot of mass. Could just be coincidence as he was quite a large male to begin with so would need more evidence or examples of these sorts of scenarios to draw any proper conclusions.

As for Eorenji, regardless of camera angles he is definitely one of the smallest male lions I’ve seen. That’s not to say his size is at all detrimental as he’s proven many times he’s more than capable and just as crucial to their success as Amahle is.

RE: N'waswitshaka males - Duco Ndona - 06-16-2024

Male animals that lose their testes often go through metabolic and lifestyle changes that makes them become fat. So that explains Caesars case.
For the lioness its a bit less clear as we don't know if something is triggering it. She may just be a lioness that was a bit stronger than the others. So able to compete more to get better meals and seek out bigger prey. Which would train her to gain more muscles. The infertility is just a coincidence as its not too rare in lions in the first place.

But a hormonal issue would also explain it. Though she is lacking the tell-tale mane growth in such case.

There was a maned lioness in Botswana, if memory serves her name was Mamariri, and she was exceptionally large. I think there was more than one, in different prides, and they were all in the Delta. She was really big, muscular, and even her roar was deep like a male's, but she was treated like a female by her pride. I don't recall if she was infertile or not, though.
