One nwaswitshaka lost an eye the other is badly injured calling for his brothers. One ranger said he could be dead already the other said he could survive. They will release pictures later today. Because it was at night they don’t know who they fought. They said they are checking Southern Avocas later . They don’t think it was de Laporte . It wasn’t bboys they both look great today with their pride .

Hmm, if this was in Lion Sands, its most likely DeLaportes then S. Avocas..

Any idea which 2 N'ws where in the fight??

RE: N'waswitshaka males - Brahim - 09-26-2020

No idea which ones . Yeah it isn’t southern Avocas your right just got told they were seen today . Some people are saying young styx and Nkuhuma May have done it or Unknown males

I doubt Styx and Nkuhuma male have the power to do that..maybe if they caught 1 N'ws alone or something..

Dreadlocks has often seen around Lion Sands.. Maybe with Talamati.

There are many fan pages and followers now, so if this is misleading, I won't trust any of them again without confirmation from official sites.

Plus, I thought that one of the Tumbelas lost an eye, or at least injured it?!  Anyway, lions can lose eyes or teeth... It's not uncommon.

Still, not much news about the N'was Coalition recently. They must be very mobile and patrolling I reckon. They were seen on the run separately in one video.  (All 4 not together, basically) Wishing for the best, but expecting anything....

These males, no matter, should try to avoid coalitions in their prime, like the 7-8 year old Delaportes or Avocas. They are not quite there yet, and lack some experience.

If they would avoid older males they would never get experiance you are talking about. Also that is the risk of being terrytorrial male. If they want to have own territorry and pride(s) then have to get into fight at least from time to time. It is just the way male lion world works. It is just unfortunate for them that they got cought separated as if they all four would be together they could easly chasse away two males.

Any word on their battle yet?

Exactly, if the males want to became territorial, as in the past few months N'ws certaintly showed signs that they are starting to become territorial, they cant just avoid other males on their territory , they need to fight and chase them out of the territory... Thats how the things work..

That's not exactly what I meant. Obviously they cannot hide behind rocks and bushes everywhere they go.  I meant they should take advantage of their strength in numbers and not get caught in vulnerable positions where they don't have the advantage...Especially against lions in their prime.  Easier said than done I'm sure. It could be that the 2 weaker ones sometimes have a harder time keeping up with the stronger brothers, making it easier to catch them or the others alone.  We've seen footage of them lagging behind.

Also, if it was the weaker two, they could be easier to take out, and not necessarily require an equal number of lions in their prime to inflict serious damage.

I feel bad for the slower ones, if they are indeed the ones that got caught. Nature shows no mercy for any chinks in the armour, so to speak.

I hope, for the sake of the coalition, that one of the more dominant males did not succumb to injuries.... That doesn't spell the beginning of the end for them necessarily.....but is not a promising sign either.

I never mentioned that they should avoid other males ON their territory.  If they go exploring outside of it, then that's another story.  If it was on their territory, a united front would actually be easier now since they have no cubs or females nearby they are defending.  They should be patrolling as close together as possible, but like I mentioned above, they COULD have gotten caught separated for explainable reasons.   Who knows.   Then again, they might not have felt the need to keep up as long as they were with one other lion, thus they felt secure enough.  If they are spooked easily, they they could also scatter in different directions, making them easier targets.

It doesnt neccesary means that weaker ones get caught, more dominant males often split and become overconfident..

Recently all 4 where seen together in Sabi Sabi, so it might be anybody..

This, this often happens to young and inexperienced males in the battle... BBoys also did that to them, but didnt caught them..

Also Vurhamis young male also died like this vs Mjejane males, they where scattered by Mjejanes and 1 male contact called, rookie mistake, 3 Mjejane males found him and it was game over..

As I was saying before, if all 4 of them are not confident enough, and when the fight starts 2 run away, all of a sudden is a 2 vs 2 situation..

It doesn't mean that this happened here, im just saying..

RE: N'waswitshaka males - T I N O - 09-26-2020

I dont think so, thats too far north for them.. Yes they where seen in Lion Sands KNP few months ago, prob chasing DeLaportes, but after that they where seen back south around DeLaporte waterhole..

I think it has to be DeLaportes, reading comments on Facebook, 1 week ago Talamati and Hildas Rock male was seen in that area apperantly, and theres photo of Dreadlocks  there from 10 days ago ago:

Also theres a video of Wide Nosed Nwaswitshaka male chasing and following someones scent around the exact time in Lion Sands KNP Concession..

This photo of Dreadlocks was posted 15.9 and video of Wide Nosed following and roaring on 14.9...both where seen in Lion Sands KNP Concession..

After that, few days ago all 4 N'ws where seen back north in Sabi Sabi.. So they prob returned back south and clashed with DeLaportes most likely.. But lets wait for more info..

Does anybody have info where the fight happened, in Lion Sands Sabi Sands or Lion Sands KNP?

From the other side older males often also split up while chassing youngster and if youngsters have supperior number can take upper hand in such situation as was the case in Mlovathi vs Majingis. Same was in brought by you N'was vs BBoys encounter exept that N'was did not take advantage from that situation. Beside that I do not think such chasse and split up took place in this new encounter of N'was with unknown males. I do not think two from the coalition would run away while other two would go on proper fight (and since injurys are to front parts of the body I think that is what happened). I think either all coalition members would scater around or all would stand up and will. I think it was just that only 2 N'was were present while fight happened.

Can't tell from the profile above but I wonder which one got killed.

Here are the videos of Wide Nose searching and roaring:

I always thought the DelaPortes had a better chance of controlling that area or becoming dominant. They are more mature and probably more experienced as a whole. Sad that the Nwas lost a brother.
