Very much so, especially his face, reminds me of Kaziranga tigers.

Hello @Amnon242, sorry for my late message.

Check this two links:

http://www.newsvl.ru/photos/2014/05/23/124021/

http://www.newsvl.ru/photos/2013/12/23/119304/

The first was posted by Warsaw in Carnivora, the second was found by me, in that same webpage.

The articles don't have information on size or weight, but the pictures are incredible and show almost all the process previous to the release of the tigers, except the long debated head-body length.

Check the images, they are excellent.

Thank You Guate.

BTW I noticed You made a table of captive amur weights. Excellent work! In Your table there is a wieght of a tiger from Zoo Dvur Kralove who was 190 kg. The weight is correct. This tiger was called Semjon and he was 17 yo when weighted (190 kg is quite impressive for a tiger of this age...I think).

Other data for Semjon:

height - 105 cm
head+body lenght - 226 cm
tail - 96 cm
circumference of head - 84 cm
paw - 18x26 cm

@Amnon242, do you know if Semjon's measurements are over curves? That's a very long tiger but very light tiger if the measurements are straight line.

@peter, can you provide more data about this article:

For example, the name of the document where it was published, the date of the article and any other data for the Bibliography?

Igor is definitely longer and probably taller (or about the same). Paris is more robust. Fight between these two would be unpredictable but probably very fierce, because both are quite agressive. 2years ago Paris attacked a breeder (he was playing with him like a cat with mouse, fortunately he didnt kill him), then he escaped into the visitors area (in the morning - no visitors yet) and he saw lion and lioness. For about 1 hour he tried to somehow attack the lions (before he was darted).

They had similar problems with Igor in the past. In the lion encolure there were adult "barbary" lions (male+female) and Igor was always trying to somehow attack them. The lions had to be moved to a different enclosure (and later the lion was killed by the lioness) and new lions (subadult white kruger couple) arrived. Interestingly Igor has no problem with these white lions...they are really friendly to each other...

Could their ages be different from the last time you saw them?

In January 2014, a South Korean man became a member of AVA. He read the extinction threads and contacted me. I gave him my email address and he sent me four articles. All were posted. The article of Won was published in 1966. I don't know in what magazine.

The name of the man who contacted me is Cho, Jang-Hyuk. He is a wildlife conservationist (a laywer, not a biologist). Weeks after he contacted me, AVA was destroyed. Not long after, my computer broke down. Quite a bit of information was lost. I tried to contact him later, but didn't succeed. I asked Grizzly to help out, but he too didn't succeed. I don't know how to find him, but maybe you do. If you succeed, ask him to join us.

RE: Amur tigers - GuateGojira - 09-26-2015

Thanks for the data @peter. I am going to use it right now.

RE: Amur tigers - GrizzlyClaws - 10-26-2015

Two Amur skulls from the private collection, 38 cm for the male and 32 cm for the female.

The canines were also removed.

RE: Amur tigers - GuateGojira - 10-26-2015

Wow, great information @GrizzlyClaws, thanks for it.

Just two questions:

1. Are this wild specimens?
2. Can you contact the owner for more information about them?

RE: Amur tigers - GrizzlyClaws - 10-26-2015

Definitely the captive specimens, and the canines were removed for selling.

I don't think that I can reach the owner.

RE: Amur tigers - GrizzlyClaws - 10-26-2015

Many zoos in China used to harvest the canines and claws from the dead specimens.

Now the tiger bones for the medicine purpose is strictly banned, but the fetish to collect the canines and claws is a bit looser, but also not publically permitted.

Most captive specimens used to live long enough, that's why most of them had the fully solid canines with no cavity inside. The young specimens with cavity is much less common, unlike in the wild causing by the poachers.
