"The Xidulu young male with a young banded mongoose he had just caught. Young leopards (this male is roughly one year old) hone their hunting skills on smaller prey such as mongooses and birds before graduating to bigger prey like impala, although a year-old leopard is certainly capable of tackling animals far bigger than itself. This male leopard is definitely the boldest leopard that I have seen in Ranthambhore National Park. Found him today morning feeding on a Sambar deer carcass near a waterhole.

"After spending time with a big herd of buffalo, the distress calls of impalas could be heard close by. With fresh signs of drag marks and buffalo-trodden leopard tracks, our guests were treated to something quite spectacular: After a 10 day hiatus, the Ndzilo female leopard was found dragging an impala carcass, but it was soon stolen from her by a cheeky hyena who then enjoyed the meal at the base of a tree. Ndzilo climbed the tree and watched on, but not for long as the branch she had been resting on had snapped. Suffice to say it was both an exciting and humorous morning and we hope she sticks around for the next while... Photo by Matt Smith"
