RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - BigLion39 - 09-28-2020 The old man at the dinner table with one of his young sons. Courtesy of; Zebra Plains Mara Camp [attachment=4298] RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - BigLion39 - 09-30-2020 Lolparpit was seen and is holing on. Feeding on a hippo carcus! I spoke to Rob the Ranger briefly and he is of the opinion that Lolparpit won't make it thru the lean season, and that's if he makes it now. Well see what happens. Hes lived a long successful life hopefully he goes out without suffering. Feeding on a hippo carcus! He doesn't look good, however, every time I see images like this, I am instantly reminded of how many times Makhulu and PB were written off, following the Selati take over, only to be spotted again. That back leg injury is the key, I believe, if he can ride that out, he might well have a chance to return to the pride and hang around for a bit longer. Not trying to sew false hope, but at the same time, I don't want to just throw in the towel on this legend either. Having a nearby hippo carcass to feed on is certainly in his favor. We will hope for the best, and remain vigilant. We have decided to write this post as we want to ensure that the correct information, to the best of our knowledge, is shared. More than 50 snares were set up in a small area on the periphery of Ol Chorro Conservancy, not far from the Mara River, which is the border of the conservancy. An eland got trapped in one of the snares, and we assume that this is what attracted the lions and hyenas to the site, where they also got trapped in snares. A joint effort by rangers from Kenya Wildlife Service, Enonkishu Conservancy, Kenya, @Ol Chorro Conservancy, Lemek Conservancy and Mara North Conservancy (Masai Mara, Kenya) are sweeping a larger area for snares and will be conducting a full investigation on the matter. Rangers across the Mara remove thousands of bushmeat snares each and every year, but sadly it is an impossible task to find every single snare. Well, at the end of this video, filmed earlier today by Rob The Ranger, he mentioned he is going to try and get by to film Lorpapit, if he is able to and if he gets a signal to stream the video. Given the lack of another video, I am only assuming that he did not get that video. However, he said that Lorpapit was seen with a zebra earlier, so there may be hope for the old boy yet. |
