The Southern Pride was resting next to a waterhole when two young buffalo bulls came down for a drink. One of the Charleston males went in for the kill and managed to bring one buffalo down while the females went for the second buffalo and also managed to take it down!

The Southern Pride was found well rested this morning and we spent an amazing time with them watching them all interact with one another. One cub-over stepped its boundaries with one of the males and was dealt with swiftly.

If I understand well, the one with a broken tooth is called Mazino (why this name?). How is called the other one?

From Sabi Sabi:
"The smaller Charleston male, dubbed Mazino (Ma-zeen-yo), which means “tooth” in the Shangaan language, due to tooth that’s been hanging off of his lower jaw for the last several months."

The other one is called Big Boy, because he is larger than his brother.

From Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve:
"This morning the two Charleston males met up with each other and were in search of the Southern Pride females and the cubs. After an intense session of scent trailing and location calling, they finally met up with one another and the moment was special. This, however, was short-lived, as one of the males reacted slightly negative towards one of the cubs causing an uproar between the females and the males - a very dangerous situation for the cubs to be around. This subsided shortly after and the females and their cubs kept a watchful eye and some distance between the males."

I found this comment on their facebook page under this post, I think it's interesting to highlight as to why all of it started:

Floppy Ear/Mandleve female started growling at one of the males when he was playing with the cubs and then attacked him, prompting the others to join in.

Unlike what one would usually think, it wasn't the male who was being the agressor, but the other way around. These males are extremely good fathers, and it shows every time.

They are. I think at least three different sets of cubs.

The first, the older ones, were sired most likely by the Fourwyas males just beofre they were kicked out by the Charleston males.

Then there's two different litters of cubs, the last one the mother is the older lioness.

Do you mean floppy ear is the older lioness?

I believe so, yes. I think she's an old timer, she's maybe 13 years old or even more. If I catch the correct age I'll post it.

The definition of power...

Watching two male Lions having a full go at each other gives you a clear idea of just how much power these beasts posses. Quite often sleeping and lazing around, it is easy to forget that Lions are indeed the apex predator in Africa.
