He seems quite a bit larger than I had thought he was, maybe WN was just so much more filled out, due to his age, when they had their encounter.

Another intriguing development unfolds for the Gijima males, who steadily expand their territory. Although the core of the Talamati pride lies further north of the Gijima males' territory, it's common behaviour for lionesses to mate with multiple males to safeguard their offspring.

Whether this mating was successful remains uncertain. Nevertheless, it adds a captivating chapter to the narratives of both the Gijima males and the Talamati pride.

That mane is very impressive on the bigger Gijima male! Wow! He is something special for sure!  I bet his brother catches us to him soon!

Three Talamati females were resting close to Bush Lodge, with the fourth lioness nearby, accompanied by one of the Gijima males. The Gijima males have full paws, with many females in their territory ready to start mating. There are very exciting times ahead in the lion dynamics in the area as the Gijima male have recently been seen mating with the Southern Pride, Talamati Pride, and Styx Pride.

We followed up on an earlier sighting of the Southern Pride on a kudu kill. After finishing the last bit of meat, they moved on, allowing the hyenas and vultures to grab the last bits and pieces. Because the cubs are still vulnerable to other predators, they searched for a safe place to spend the rest of the evening.

This morning, we tried our luck again and found them, still nursing their full bellies, and soaking up the warm morning sun. One of the Gijima males joined them through the night, but he kept his distance from the rest of the pride. The pride will spend the next day or two digesting their well-deserved meal before looking for the next potential prey animal. Lions will feed on average every third day but are very opportunistic and will hunt again when they can.
