RE: Lions of Sabi Sands - Mak1998 - 01-12-2025

PCM over confidence could be their downfall hopefully they stick together and expel every threat in their territory. The only group of lions that i see that are a current threat are the Kruger Male and the S. Avoca they are experienced former territorial males and know what they have to do to become territorial again. Nkuhuma male 2016 will be 9 this year and hasn't shown anything besides being a good hunter. Hopefully he backs up Khanya when they make a push, he has a lot of promise. Monwanas aren't going anywhere its exciting and i think we all expect big things from them. Tumbela needs to leave the west or try to join the Kruger Male or S. Avoca.

So the plains camp males only basically only control 2 prides

Xim and Tsalala? I mean pretty much, Ottawas mate with one and run from the other, Manghenis I´d say its pretty out of they control ( not thats its something that bothers them), Nkuhuma Breakaways are legacy, Nkuhumas are out of the picture for months. But I do prefer for them to only control these 2 prides and create stability for them than  being casanovas and end up with situations like Nkuhumas and Manghenis

RE: Lions of Sabi Sands - Duco Ndona - 01-12-2025

Just one right now. Ximhungwes.
The others are either abandoned, failed takeovers or they just interact to little with them to be concidered pride males.

RE: Lions of Sabi Sands - Mapokser - 01-12-2025

@Rui Ferreira I think the NK male doesn't have it in him, he is similar to his Kambula brothers, not as weak but in comparison lacks numbers and a life long bond.

I doubt they'd stand any chance against even an average duo of well established males, never mind a powerhouse like the PCM. I'd rank the old Avoca/Kruger duo as above these 2 any day.

@Tr1x24 not necessarily, enemy males have shared that territory before. Ravenscourt, Nhlanguleni and Dzunani shared that area during pre-Mapogo times.

HB and Othawa male shared it. Tumbelas and Othawa male as well.

Sometimes coalitions of similar strength will take over a part of the territory of the established coalition. OG Gijima stole Djuma and Nkuhumas from Mlowathi, but couldn't steal their core territory for example, or the N.Avocas pushing Bboys out of the northern parts of their territory, but never really came close of taking over and making a claim over the Kambula pride.

PCM couldn't care less about Southern Singita and Manghenis, they attack Othawas even after mating with them and Tsalala is just a lone lioness scared of the smaller PCM who is reported by an eyewitness to be chilling normally with the pride alongside his brother back in September before suddenly Tsalala ran from him hiding the cubs while he went after the cubs with aggressive motivations. Maybe he was confused if the cubs were his or not, there was no sighting of him with Tsalala prior to the cubs being born and now again he isn't seen with her, with his brother dominating the mating fully for weeks now, they also abandoned Nkuhumas and the north, they only care about the core Western Sector and Ximgungwes.

If another coalition of similar strength would try to claim the territory and prides the PCM barely cares about, there's a decent chance they wouldn't want to fight for it, nor would this coalition try to fight for the PCM's core territory as the PCM wouldn't give it up easily.

Also, worst case scenario, NK Breakaways are fully independent, Ximhungwe cubs are independent too and will be 2yo in half a year, the fully abandoned cubs will be 2yo in Feb-March, if they were fully ousted this year by more reliable pride males, it would still be likely to be better for most of the prides ( unless the new males are even worse pride males for them, but that we can't predict ). PCM are also strong enough to be able to easily become dominant again in some other area, so everybody wins.

I do not think the plain camp male lions would lose to the young male lions. One young male lion maybe with lionesses already. They maybe really good for Mahangeni lionesses. They may not hurt young lions in Mahangeni sometimes young male lions are ok around young lions. I think Nukhuma male lion is different from Kambula male lions. Nukhuma male lion is relative to Kambula male lions. I think Kambula male lions were young, and once older Kambula male lions left; with K3,k4,K5 brothers similar age all may have been similar in strength and confidence. Once Kambula male lions started getting stronger K4 maybe got aggressive and wanted to lead, but I think fighting other male lions, and injuries maybe had to recover and gain confidence. K6 is younger and maybe if everything is ok and healthy; K6 may lead.

Kambula lions attack Nukhuma male lion so Kambula lions together can fight male lions. Wonder if Kambula male lions are acting strange not what normally young male lions do. If they are six in age maybe sometime in coming months changes in Kambula will be in Nukhuma lionesses in north cubs? Nukhuma male lion is eight years of age he may follow young Talamatie male lion. Really had hoped he was with Mohawk and Nukhuma.

I think young male lions maybe good for Mahangeni.

So, the missing Monwana boy is no longer missing.  It's just incredible how bad the PCM's are at being Pride Males.  The N'Was boys and Gijima's wouldn't tolerate this.

You can see him coming up the road just at the end. He doesn't seem to be showing too much aggression at the moment, but that might change if all his brothers joined him.

I had a question. Kambula cubs are older than Mahangenis? I read maybe one Kambula lioness looked pregnant. One in half or two years after having cubs? When cubs are about two years?
