@Potato I disagree, I think every single healthy male is build to eventually try to be fully territorial if they are healthy and have the opportunity. Kambulas are healthy and 4 males in an area with only duos.

Kambulas are just, IMO, a a case of males that take much more time to get ready than the average.

While their behavior is unusual for their afe nd numbers, it doesn't mean it won't ever change.

Some males are like the PC S.Avoca son, they are barely 5yo, are loners, but already getting in huge fights with seemingly dominant males, and winning females that way.

Most others take more time even when they have partners, and others, rarely, are like the Kambulas.

I think if Kambulas were some weird thing of nature that would never fight, they wouldn't have their wins over BDM and solo males.

Incredible lioness (though we should give the Gijimas their due as well). Every single Southern pride lion from now on will be descended from her. What a legacy.

Let's hope the Tsalala girl can pull off the same feat.

Agreed, on all points. I worry for Tsalala, quite a bit, just as with the Southern Lioness and her two subs, when the Gijimas first met up with them. There was a lot of concern they might kill the two subs, yet, their decision not to do so, has allowed the pride to grow at an astonishing rate. With Tsalala, if what we have heard, which is that the smaller maned PCM is the one who killed her cubs, she may well have a much more difficult path to that level of success.

I dont believe in that rumor 0.01 %.

As for Tsalala vs SP, SP had far more easier area to rise cubs, lions activity south at that time in 2020/21 was very low.

She was basically only adult female in the area with 4 adult male lions (this was before Styxs and later Talamatis came).

Then, Ndhzengas started vacating, and Gijimas came in moment where subs where old enough that inexperienced males would not threat them, as they found their first pride and first mate in their mother.

We saw that younger Styxs subs where not as lucky, as Gijimas didnt accept them until recently.

From what I understand, due to the troubled relationship between fans and the rangers, we are now getting more X talked with ranger Y which confirmed Z kind of reports.
Unfortunatly in this case X did confirmed with a ranger that the cub died, but then added his or her own suspicions that the PCmale did it. Which was than taken as the rangers words when the larger community started to pick the story up.

Offcource it always could be true, their relation with the pride isnt as good as is normal between prides and the males, so we cant confidently say they wouldnt kill the cubs out of that they never would do that. But presently there is nothing pointing in that way and other culprids are more likely.

It is concerning that the Tsalala lioness potentially lost all three cubs in three seperate events seperated only by days. This suggests she was either targetted or something shifted in the area that made it extremely hostile to cubs and not the general situation in the area as we are aware of it. Perhaps there was a shift in hyena territories or something that send a group of those at her doorstep.

If the third cub is indeed death. She is all alone again in an area in turmoil. My first concern will be her seeking out new males and then suffering the same fate as the Imbali lioness found earlier.

I do hope she teams up with the Othawa Girls or Tiyelele or maybe K12 so she is not alone and have some protection from the other females, just hoping that her and these lionesses become successful.

Othawas (as sisters would prob not accept her at this point anyways) and Tiyelele are too far from her traverse area.

Best bet are K12 or NK Breakaway female, but they are currently in partnership with young males, so that might be a problem.

Was going to say this. Othawas are now pretty much mature (have started mating), and they have each other. The two younger Southern pride lionesses must have helped their mother kill the Styx lioness, and they were younger, so it's not impossible that the Othawas could try and kill Tsalala.

K12 would be perfect. Her union with the Styx male seems unlikely to work, there's no way he could hold a territory by himself surrounded by duos and coalitions. The Orpen male was much older and wasn't able to. It would better for both K12 and Tsalala if she left him and joined her half-sister, but of course lions can't think like this. We can only hope this is how things play out. Now she's lost her cubs it would be the perfect time to join another lioness.

K12 did join for a bit the Talamati lioness when she was with her 4 brothers
And I dont think Styx would mind another lioness with him

I had read a comment the Ndhzenga male lions may have already been with K12. I wonder if she is still with the young Styxt male lion.

Have they started mating?  I know the PCM's were seen with one of them, but I didn't know it was a mating situation.

Yes, but I don’t think it was necessarily due to estrus.
