Matshipiri males
With the two Matimba males having moved far north outside of the Sabi Sands, the two Matshapiri males find themselves extending their territory further and further west into the central parts of Londolozi. Here, the two of them scent mark and patrol along the newly established boundary of their territory.

A Matshipiri male lion tries to steal the remains of a young buffalo from a Sparta lioness. Despite the male being substantially bigger, females will not often give up their hard-fought carcasses without a fight.

The matshiphri males are in trouble the matimbas have returned to londolozi.

Nah, it's probably reversed, the Matimbas are the ones in trouble. They're to old and have already run from the Matshipiri before.

I don't know if they are in trouble but I don't think that the matimba males will challenge them. Last time HB was hurt due to an altercation most likely with the Matshapiri Males but I think that he was caught alone. The Matimba Males are still confident enough to walk around alone, that's why other coalitions managed to catch a single male a few times (Magjini, Matshapiri..). I would like them to stay together almost all the time. 2 against 2 they still stand a chance but they're getting really old now. They should return to the Tsalala Pride and protect the young cubs. Overall I hope to hear and see more of them..

MALAMALA TODAY: May 19th. 2 lion sightings: the Kambula pride and Matshapiri males killed a wildebeest north of Rattray's Camp. The Fourways pride made an attempt at killing a wildebeest but missed- they moved north and west away from Emsagwen Open Area. 4 leopards: the Kikilezi female and her 2 cubs spent the entire day in the vicinity of Main Camp. The Split Rock male was viewed moving west from Buffalo Bush Dam. A herd of buffalo was seen west of Mlowathi Dam. Herds of elephants were scattered across the property. MALAMALA TODAY (and yesterday): May 20th. 3 lion sightings: early morning audio of lions roaring south of Rattray's Camp was soon followed by audio of lions fighting. We first found the fuller maned Matshapiri male steadily moving northwards through the Tamboti Thickets. Not too far behind him were 2 unidentified younger male lions- one of which had bite marks on his hind legs. They would roar- then the Matshapiri male would stop, turn around and roar back before moving north again. 2 lionesses from the Kambula pride also appeared on the scene and they had clearly been feeding off a kill. One of the lionesses ran off but the other approached the new males- the same lioness who lured the Matshapiri males away during their altercation with the Clarendon males some months back. She then proceeded to 'mate' with the young males as she had done with Matshapiri males. The other 4 lionesses of the Kambula pride were located just south of Main Camp in the Sand River. We watched the Fourways pride were catch an impala east of Fourways Open Area. 3 leopards: the cubs of the Kikilezi female spent the day chasing Guinea Fowl north and west of Main Camp as they waited for their mother to return from a hunt. The Treehouse male was in front of Main Camp.
May 21st. 3 lion sightings: the 2 young unidentified male lions are still with the lioness from the Kambula pride north of Karen Open Area. The fuller maned Matshapiri male and the other 5 lionesses from the Kambula pride are in the Sand River near Maxim's Lookout. 2 large males (Mantimahle) were viewed along the Tjellehanga River. 3 leopards: we watched the Treehouse male catch a duiker north of Rattray's Camp. The Piccadilly female is opposite Main Camp feeding off a young baboon kill. The Tamboti female was seen at Maxim's Lookout. Cape hunting dogs: The Toulon pack were viewed in the south.
Looks like these males are in real trouble from 2 diff set of lions...

3 lion sightings: the 2 young unidentified males are still with one of the Kambula lionesses and they have moved even deeper into Matshapiri male territory- they were found along the Sand River just south of Main Camp close to where the Kikilezi female's body was. The 2 Matshapiri males have reunited and are not far away- they are in the Sand River east of our airstrip. It will be interesting to see how the less dominant Matshapiri male's back leg injury will affect this standoff.
It's bad but he's been coping with it for a couple weeks now. But it's not 'fight ready'
