An official account of Kaziranga says that there are 4 tigers with golden tiger colouration in the tiger reserve. I am not sure how accurate that is, but if true, should be alarming.

yea not surprised..been thinking that kazi tigers are pretty inbred for a while now what's interesting is for ranthambore tigers also being inbred not a single tabby or white tiger has been recorded yet @Ashutosh

Probably the greengrocers trait doesn't exist in that population... It is not directly related to inbreeding, but the rate of explosion.
During its worst days Kaziranga had less than 50 tigers what it became a TR in 1972, in following years all tigers from nearby forests moved into Kaziranga & stayed due to its quality. There were 80 in by turn of millennium & adjoining forests became abandoned.
If a single Tiger carrying the recessive gene managed to become dominant, he could successfully raise already a dozen cubs, who's in turn would produce more.
From there, today Kazi has more than 120 tigers, with max density of upto 15 tigers per 100 square kilometres. At this situation, some of them with the recessive gene are bound to come across each other after a generation or two.

@Rage2277, there have been many documented cases of tigers with colour mutations in the past when tiger populations were much higher so inbreeding definitely wasn’t the cause then. So, one case would not be such an issue as 1 in every 10,000 births is likely to be a colour variant.
What is tough to comprehend is that other tiger subspecies are also inbred (Amur tigers numbered 50), Indochinese tigers live in smaller populations than Kaziranga in their range but we have yet to see any other subspecies display any other colour variations.
As for Kzt106, she is at least 6 years old and she has not raised any cubs. She has been seen with male tigers and also was seen last year on a water buffalo kill made by a big male, so she is most probably his prospective mating partner.
I don’t know if she is infertile, but, she has survived in Kaziranga for 6 years (one tough place for any tiger). She was even camera trapped with some injuries which she recovered from just fine. Many people thought wasn’t possible for tigers of different coat colouring.

No. I'm pretty sure she has raised cubs. Although considering her scare & the fact that it is Kaziranga, cub mortality can be expected to be very high.

That is not her cub. It was either her sibling or her mother. I think even Rabin Sharma said that she has yet to raise a litter of cubs. Plus, that picture is from 2016. She was just reaching adulthood then.

There are scores of black panthers all over Asia & Africa, into hundreds large interconnected populations! If this type of recessive genes are in the wild population they will surface from time to time. With frequency increased with numbers.
Unfortunate to see even its photographer himself parroting the alarmist words.
