RE: Avoca male lions - WildLeonis - 05-20-2022 @Mdz123 I tried reposting from Imgur but the images are still showing as blocked due to copyright by the original author. You can see the pics on the Avoca Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Avoca.Males/ RE: Avoca male lions - 1ofCourage - 05-20-2022 Dark Mane Avoca looking good. RE: Avoca male lions - Tonpa - 05-21-2022 Dark mane "Avoca male lion trailing talamati pride" By Tendai moyo RE: Avoca male lions - WildLeonis - 05-21-2022 Wow. His mane has gotten even blacker. Hopefully it eventually fills back in on top. He had the prettiest mane of all the Avocas IMO before he lost so much of it. Anyway, overall he’s looking great. RE: Avoca male lions - Hairy tummy - 05-21-2022 The big fella, taking it easy, as usual RE: Avoca male lions - lionuk - 05-21-2022 Two Southern Avoca males at Lion Sands earlier this month Credit: gumede wildlife *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author It appears that 1/2 Southern Avoca males has less mane on the top. He doesn't look like he's lost overall condition so it's probably nothing. Its the end of summer, males usually have less mane during summer. After few months of lower temperature his mane will get thicker again. Usually we dont need to be concerned if males lose some mane in first half of the year, as its quite hot there. You will find that almost every healthy male has thickest and biggest mane in post winter/spring months of Sep-Dec, then after that they start losing it a bit (except genetic and testosterone freaks, who have massive manes whole year, those males usually have biggest males in Kruger). RE: Avoca male lions - Tonpa - 05-23-2022 RE: Avoca male lions - WildLeonis - 05-26-2022 DM back on Djuma with Talamatis. His brothers were just in the area last night. Lion movements can be so interesting sometimes. At times it seems like they purposely avoid each other unless it just just can’t be helped. I think Steve from WE once said that the roaring and scent marking helps keeps some form of boundaries and thus avoidance. His theory was that Lions rather not fight at all unless it can’t be avoided. Everyone is looking good. RE: Avoca male lions - WildLeonis - 05-26-2022 Here’s footage of Blondie with some of the Nkuhumas. They’re all in the brush and pretty flat so hard to see them. Blondie looks very thin in the hip area but that’s seems to be his look lately. Watching him on the Djuma dam cam last night he looked to be in pretty good condition. Was walking very fast despite the limp, but from behind he looked pretty thin, specifically his back hips. I think he’s doing okay though. It’s great to see that he’s had no issues keeping up with Mohawk and the pride. Cool that he, Mohawk and the Nkuhumas are on one side of Djuma and DM and the Talamatis are on the opposite side of the area. RE: Avoca male lions - Tr1x24 - 05-28-2022 N. Avocas encounter Torchwood pride : Its funny how they are attacking Mohawk, and then saw Blondie just standing there in the bush, they where like "ok, time to go now" and run away hehe. Avocas encounter Torchwood pride : Indeed! Ha Ha! It was great to see Blondie roaring and running after them. That injured leg is not holding him back at all. I think the Avocas mated with the Torchwoods in the past? Don’t know if any cubs were produced, but I think they’re definitely “familiar” with each other even though it may have been a while. Anyway, great footage! |
