"was told an interesting anecdote while watching this legend approach me last week. It's the lions that have scarred, battered and bruised faces that you must admire, because it's them that face their battles head on! This fine specimen is the aptly named Scar Nose Majingilane, the dominant male in the famous Majingilane."

I’m dark mane is the dominant male.

Yes, and I think even Golden mane is above Scar nose in the hierarchy.

I think Golden Mane is youngest of all and in initial few years, he used to be the least dominant and being left out kind of.
He has now come all the way and probably he is the one who is in best condition at this point of time. DM is showing signs of getting old, so as Scar Nose. GM not that much.

DM is showing signs of age but still has the attitude to make up for it. DM has a much darker skin-tone, mane, and overall a more muscular build suggesting higher testosterone levels. Even in old age I don't expect DM to get dominated by the others. SN seems to be the workhorse of the majingalane coalition, he might have lost his status as the 2nd in command considering GM seems to be the one in best shape nowadays.

SN is the perfect right hand man to DM. He never challenge DM's authority and their bond is on another level. They all look old but theres still fight left on them. The videos of them this year it looks like they are not slowing down. They just need to protect the Mangheni and Othawa sub adults. I rather see them go out swinging, than dying of hunger or desease

Jesus must really love us, because somehow on our very last game drive this morning we got to see the one animal we hadn't spotted yet: three male lions just snoozing away in the shade about 3 ft. from us. We couldn't believe it!

MALAMALA TODAY: October 13th. 3 lion sightings: The 6 members of the Kambula pride are in the central parts of Flockfield. The lionesses kept us thoroughly entertained this evening as we watched them hunt several different prey species. The 3 Manyeleti males spent most of the day north near Maurice’s Pan before moving southwards. Members of the Styx pride were seen east of Mlowathi Dam.

We were blessed with some amazing sightings the last two or three days. We even were privilege to see the mighty Majingilane Males.

They don't really come this far south so it was a real treat to see them.

Yesterday we managed to get a good visual of the Majingilane coalition of three battle-scarred Herculean lions. This powerful trio have had quite a tumultuous time recently, and have had to defend their territory from potential intruders - they've also had run ins with the young and tough Avoca males. The life of a male lion running wild and free in reserves is one fraught with hardship. They are the ultimate gladiators, and well deserving of their title as "King of the Jungle".
Ranger Danie Fourie took this incredible photo of our vehicle neatly positioned close to these full-maned kings. http://www.umkumbe.co.za
