From MalaMala Game Reserve
MALAMALA TODAY: March 19th. 3 lion sightings: We found the 2 Matshapiri males and 6 breakaway lionesses early this morning walking northward along the Mlowathi River. Chaos ensued when they caught sight of another male lion to their north, 1 of the Gowrie males. He ran north and both Matshapiri males gave chase! Some of the lionesses also followed suit but then it was difficult to make out what was going on as there were lions roaring and running everywhere. After a while the males returned, all the lionesses regrouped and they starting moving south again. The Eyrefield pride were viewed hunting Zebra at F-bend Open Area in the south. There seems to be a definite territorial shift southwards, most likely as a result of the 6 breakaway lionesses. 3 leopards: the Treehouse male has a kill on Lion Loop. The Island female was seen close to Main Camp. An unidentified female was spotted down south along the Tjellehanga River. Many elephant and buffalo bull sightings were recorded today. On morning game drive we stumbled across the 6 Mhangeni Breakaway lionesses along with the 2 Matshipiri males. They were all just lazing around but the females seemed to stir a bit and was keen to hunt. The eventually got up and moved into a drainage line to settle in for the day. In the afternoon game drive we returned and they were still sleeping. One Matshipiri and one of the Mhangeni’s were off to the side mating. After some time they all got up and went in search of prey. After one failed attempt, eventually an impala kill was made. The males greedily devoured the whole kill without sharing a morsel!

I'm not sure, it does look like it, but maybe it's just the angle of the pic. So far, I haven't read any of the rangers mention it.

From Yesterday:

The Matshapiri males were found early this morning roaring frequently as they moved southwards along our airstrip before settling under West Street Bridge for the day.

@Tshokwane :

About #149: Very beautiful black-and-white photo ! This sight in low-angle shot of this male lion makes his neck and head almost surrealist... Almost detached from the rest of the body. Superb !
