The Charleston males have been doing a fantastic job protecting and scent marking their territory and keeping the Southern Pride and their new cubs well provided for. The blonde Charleston was found by himself this week on a buffalo cow kill which he didn’t have to share with anybody, apart from some curious Hooded Vultures!

Both boys joined up later in the week for a bit of bonding time and resumed their territorial patrols.

From Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve:
"We found Floppy Ear/Mandleve and her 2 cubs with one of the older cubs making their way from the buffalo kill they had been feasting on for the past couple of days, to have a drink of water in front of Bush Lodge with some other members of the Pride. They were full of joyful exuberance and were a delight to watch whilst they grappled playfully with each other."

The Southern Pride and the two Charleston males were found this morning on a buffalo they killed during the night. The cubs gave our guests some great interaction both with each other and the rest of the pride.

Hilda's Rock Male has been on our property for the past week with the Charleston Female and two youngsters. They made a buffalo kill in the Sabie River which they were chased off the kill by the two dominant Charleston Male Lions.

The Skukuza/Hilda's Rock Male was fathered by the 3 Sand River Males.

The Southern Pride and 4 of the cubs were found this morning with one of the Charleston males mating with one of the females. She was not impressed with his over eager antics and kept rebuking him whenever he was too eager. The cubs are enjoying their time out and about and there was much playing in and around an old termite mound.

Seen on safari:
Just before dusk yesterday afternoon, one of the Charleston males was still seen mating with one of the Southern Pride females who was in oestrus. Moments after mating, one of the older cubs decided to play with the male, a very risky decision it was.  The other Pride members made their way to a waterhole to enjoy a drink and a beautiful sunset!

From Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve:
"We had an awesome sighting of the Southern Pride and their cubs, as well as the Charleston males this morning while they fed on the buffalo they brought down. One male went off to drink water and the other was swamped by the cubs who surrounded him and were all intent on giving him their affections and playing with him."

From Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve:
"The Southern Pride were cuddled up on an open area as the morning was overcast and slightly cooler than usual. However, sleeping was not the case for the cubs! Not too far away, a Charleston male displays the process of flehmen grimace as he processes the scent of one of the females of the Southern Pride."
