The Northern Matimbas have not been removed yet. They still are dominant males.

they are but one of them has been injured too seriously to continue as a dominant and the other can't fight intruders alone. What actually happened to them?

Wel, the information said he had a bad limp. Now, for old males any injury is serious, but I think with some decent meals he can recover from it.

omg the second pic is so brillantly taken! Brings out the ferocity of this incredible beast, amazing! Just wondering if it's HB or Ginger.

Any word on the whereabouts of the S. Marimbas since the last run in with the Majingilane?

RE: the Matimba coalition - Skybed - 03-25-2016

This is taken from the Tintswalo ranger's blog. This boys will ensure that the strong genes of the Northern Matimbas lives on!

Mbiri males

We had a surprise visit from the two Mbiri males this week. They are the oldest known cubs of the Matimba males, and haven’t been seen since September last year. They are looking very good and strong, and with their genes are going to be a very formidable coalition. They area about 4 and a half years old now, so their time is coming. Christof found them on Pod Mahogany, but they moved back into the KNP.

Here is the answer, from The week in Pictures #224:
The blonde-maned Matimba male’s previously gashed forehead is healing well after February’s battles. Despite temporarily splitting from each other, the Matimba coalition survived another altercation with the Majingilane, who moved back west with injuries to two of the three.

During the coalition’s time apart, the dark maned Matimba male rests in a thicket to escape the wind. The two have since reunited and have killed and fed on a young buffalo together.

And these are the two lovely cubs of the Matimba males with the Tsalala lionesses.

hmmm!
the matimbas don't look so much wounded as the Majingilane,
strange.

Indeed, it surprised me as well, particularly about Hairy belly who was in the thick of it. What I'm thinking is that the fight didn't go a 3 vs 1 all at the same time, otherwise we would see a different evidence.

Maybe it was a 1 vs 1 between Hairy belly and Dark Mane(judging by Dark mane's injuries) and then the other two came and chased Hairy belly off.

But anyway, these are lions we're talking about and the two Matimbas are big and powerful, they can handle 1 vs 1 easily.

RE: the Matimba coalition - vizions - 03-25-2016

Impressive stuff by the Matimbas. Seeing both coalition's injuries, they took the best of the altercation despite being outnumber.

they could have been 1 vs 2, HB vs DM and SN, probably GM didn't get involved at all,
for sure Ginger and HS stayed away.

let's hope both coalitions will last long enough to bring cubs to a surviving age

Scar Nose had nothing on him , while Golden Mane does have a scratch in his side, you can see it in the video I posted in the Majingilane thread.

What's for sure is that, if it was indeed a 1 vs 1 between Hairy belly and Dark Mane, Hairy belly came on top of it, at least until he was chased away.

yes OK, I was confused,
HB vs DM and GM
and then SN came and chased HB away.
but DM was seriously beaten up, while HB has only light injuries.

it is a little strange why Ginger always leave before the fight, he done it again last month.

RE: the Matimba coalition - NCAT33 - 03-26-2016

Now its all starting to come together. The Matimbas won the battle but are losing the war

why do you say that??
The Matimbas, in fact Hairy Belly, has only light scratches. They will try to provoke the Majingilane again, they should have found out that there are other Prides in Singita too.
and with Hip Scar partially inactive and a Dark Mane with less potential now the weight falls on Scar Nose and Golden Mane.
It looks that HB can handle a 1 vs 2 fight and it gets overwhelmed on a 1 vs 3 but what will happen if Ginger joins him on the final battle in a 2 vs 3 confrontation.
