Poor girls.
They are throwing everything to make a kill.
It's always sad to see their kill is stolen by gijimas and talamatis every now and then

Styx pride appears to still be doing well.

Throwback of Floppy Ear around October.

The oldest of two males now in the Styx Pride.  He does not resemble the other youngsters much, judging by his unique looks.  Wide-nosed, Floppy Ear, wishing the very best for his future.  Anybody got a good photo of his male cousin with whom he would form a coalition should they survive until the nomadic stage?

Out of 5 males, only he and one other is still alive!  They have a tough road to independence, since their fathers are no longer protecting the pride much at all; and as we all know, the first to be targeted in a takeover/chase are the sub males.

RE: Styx Pride - lionuk - 02-13-2023

"The Styx Pride has been around the eastern part of reserve for a while and this morning we were lucky… Less than a kilometre from Selati Camp, we spotted the pride in the distance, but they were far from the road. We waited for quite some time before they came out and walked straight towards our vehicle! What a lucky sighting; our patience was rewarded!

Being summer, it is our rainy season meaning the grass is long and sometimes visibility is limited in certain areas. This is an advantage for predators when they hunt as they have a lot of cover to allow them to stalk their prey and get closer. The Styx Pride tried their luck on some impalas but failed as the young lionesses did not have the patience to wait for the right time to attack. A hard lesson learnt."

In my opinion, this older Styx female subadult is likely was sired by Amahle (below) due to a strong resemblance between them.

Good to see the sub girls are reaching the age where they are trying to join the hunts. They'll learn. And that will be a big help for the two adults, especially with the ever increasing appetites of seven sub adults.
