An incredible era has come to an end in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, with news of the first Majingilane male having passed away. Most likely he died from starvation, but let's not make a big fuss about it, a male lion is a male lion, warrior at heart.
also i think majingilanes have very bad taste . they are a habitual hyena eaters. now they ate their own brother from their own coalition.. thats not a sign of dominance at least.

I heard Hip Scar is the most aggressive among the 4 Majingilanes; is that true?
Since when he's body condition started to decline? I mean not to patrol with his brothers anymore? He seems not to be in good shape for quite some long time; was he sick or something? Initially HipScar used to be the second most dominant one His body condition has deteriorated badly more than an year ago as well, but he pulled back nicely He is not so successful this time also age is catching him up 
If I consider the photos of the #977 (Hipscar junger) older than those of #984 (Hippscar older), so it is amazing to see how the hair around the Hipscar's face (not from the belly and neck) got more and more darker...

Like @GrizzlyClaws mentioned, his canines were in very good condition, considering he was 12 years old. I think it's a combination of factors, but the decline may have started around 2015. I don't think it was as serious as it looked, because that bad leg or hip bothered him, but it was only just a bit until he got some blood pumping there and then he walked better. In fact, until not so long ago, he was filmed taking active part in the hunting, something he couldn't have done if he was in that bad state. After that, the lack of meals sometimes dominant males need to go through in order to patrol and/or the lng bouts of mating, seemed to have a higher toll on him, which was understandable, again considering his age.

Today I learnt of the passing of Hip Scar - one of the members of the mighty Majingilane Coalition. I had the privilege of spending countless hours with him. Late nights and early mornings - his tracks etched in the sand. Il never forget him marching down the road in Londolozi roaring to alert all of his presence. How many pictures have been taken? How many lives has he touched? How much of an impact has this one lion had? Of course his death is sad, but what we should celebrate is that he died WILD, leaving behind a legacy. It is now up to us to fight to continue to protect not only his offspring's land, but the land under which all lions still roam! Rest In Peace.  *This image is copyright of its original author
