Maned Wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) Skull
- Length of skull 25 cm
- Wide of skull 12,5 cm
- Length of upper canine 3 cm
- Length of lower canine 2,5 cm

The average adult weighs 23 kg (51 lb) and stands 90 cm (35 in) tall at the shoulder, has a head-body length of 100 cm (39 in) with the tail adding another 45 cm (18 in). Its ears are large and long (7 inches). The maned wolf is omnivorous. It specialises in preying on small and medium-sized animals, including small mammals (typically rodents and rabbits), birds, and even fish, but a large portion of its diet (more than 50%, according to some studies) is vegetable matter.

It is very interesting to see that big part of their diet are rodents and rabbits because they have huge canine teeth for canids similar sized to the canine teeth of Wolf (Canis Lupus)

Diadorim male took a shit on top of the termite mound  Funny Funny Funny Funny

Onçafari Our biologists who work in the Cerrado, at Pousada Trijunction, recorded another unusual scene of the maned wolves we monitor there.

Diadorim, one of the males we follow in the region, decided to relieve himself right in front of the team, on top of a termite mound, without any shame! LOL

In fact, this behavior is common for territory marking. They use termite mounds to defecate and thus spread their scent, sending a message like, “I'm around, this is my area”

Great News - New Maned Wolves showing up in the Cerrado Lol

Last September 20th, we started another season of research and monitoring here at Pousada Trijunção.

On the first night, we were lucky enough to catch 3 wolves: Diadorim, Nhorinhá and a young female that we were not monitoring yet.
Now we have new wolves being monitored and we will be able to better understand their behaviors and areas of life, so that we can draw better strategies for conservation of this species symbol of the Cerrado.

We finished the season today, with a very positive balance for biodiversity! Congratulations to all those involved in this mission, who as always have done everything with great perfection, professionalism and dedication.   -Onçafari

                                 Nhorinhá the Maned Wolf.

This morning our field biologist Valkyrie Cabral recorded Nhorinhá, a female maned wolf we monitor in the Cerrado.

She was walking quietly next to another male that we didn't know about yet!  Nhorinhá is already very calm in our presence, she's already realizing that we are not a threat!

Nhorinhá female was the first maned wolf that we habituated to live here in the Cerrado at Pousada Trijunção. Since we started monitoring her, we have already accompanied her in several sightings, besides her being the most peaceful animal that we monitor here.

She also helped in the habituation process of Diadorim, a male maned wolf that lives in the region, bringing him close to our team when the 2 started to walk together.
