This cub (and the two others not seen in my pictures) doesn't belong to the 2 male adults of this pride. According to our ranger this has never happened, where the male lions didn't kill off the cubs of another male. He doesn't know if them letting the cubs live is just an anomaly or simply a matter of time. Images by Patricia Im, November 9, 2018

Othawa male is too young to stand a chance.. that's to 2 males.. no way... let alone one...

This was one of the female lions of the small and unique pride that roamed this part of the reserve. It consisted of 2 adult females, 3 cubs, and 2 older adult males. Part of what made it unique is that the cubs did not belong to either of the males, and yet, they were peacefully coexisting. Our ranger explained that this is normally not the case, and that males tend to eliminate cubs that are not theirs, but apparently they have been living like this for a couple months. This is one of the 2 older male lions and one of the lion cubs in the pride. Lions spend most of the day lounging in the shade to beat the heat.

There is something about being in the presence of a male lion, this particular individual was part of the Matimba coalition that called Londolozi home, they were not the biggest lions but they were beautiful. Image by Avijja Fonseka, November 14, 2018
