Only one of the Matimba Males came across onto into our area and only for a day. He seemed to be following a lioness from the Nkuhuma pride but there was no attempt at copulation whilst they were with us.

Senior Mbiri male probably son of Ginger

The Senior Mbiri male has a very resemblance with the Matimba male called Shaka.
Shaka and Ginger were really so similar. perhaps that's is why the Senior Mbiri male also have a kinda look as Ginger at one point

I considered that also, and photo of shaka as sub adult male really looks like Senior Mbiri when he was same age, plus Shaka was oldest after Ndhuna, so it would make sense he is the father. But I saw lot of unique simmilarity to Ginger, thus I still think Ginger, by some chance, may be father of Senior Mbiri. Either way, it seems Senior Mbiri could have lost territory as he was photographed at Kumana dam, which people say, is very far from Nsemani dam area, which is his territory.

Actually the Matimba males were almost of the same age.
Ginger isn't the youngest neither Shaka the oldest out of the five

They really were big males. Imagine how big then was HB in their prime. He was described as the biggest of the Matimba males by Darren Donovan in 2013 or so

Is there any photo of HB with N. Matimbas where we can see their size? I dont think HB was much larger then them, if so.. I mean even Ginger wasnt that much smaller then HB, HB was much bulkier, but height was very close..

RE: The Matimba coalition - Hairy tummy - 11-16-2020

All the matimbas looked huge lions. Has there been any other large coalitions where they were all really big lions, in kruger/SS? The skybeds and mantimahle spring to mind

Of course! The six Matimba were really big and monsterly male lions. I just pointed out what an old ranger of the Manyeleti Game Reserve once said. He said in 2015 that all the Matimbas were big but Hairy belly was very massive
old Skybed Avoca Giraffe were big too

RE: The Matimba coalition - Potato - 11-16-2020

Massive Southern Matimbas back in 2015 at roughly 8 and half years old.
