Western Black Rhino is declared extinct, officially - sanjay - 04-16-2015

One of the saddest day in human civilization. We are destroying our nature and loosing the battle to save our precious animals from poachers and mafia's.
This is heartbreaking news. I am really disappointed.
Will be see similar news for other animals, Like tiger, Lion etc ? Time to do something seriously .

Paying respects Sad

Aswell, paying respects for one of the few surviving whales of its kind. An Omura's whale washed up on a beach recently, thought to be extinct. Hopefully not the last.

If there is still suitable habitat left in Western Africa, why couldn't they just move some Eastern black rhinos into the area?  At least the rhino's role in the ecosystem could be maintained.  Of course it all depends on whether or not there is suitable habitat still available.  I also don't know the politics of Africa whether there would be obstacles to doing this like with the Asiatic lion.

Which black rhino has only 4 individuals left?
One male and 3 female I believe and they are guarded 24/7

It may be north. black rhinos but I'm not sure...

One more burden on our shoulders. May it be a reason for us to rethink.

Thus species was actually officially declared exitinct in 2011, but it looks like 2006 was their true end date.

The Northern white rhino is next, unfortunately. There's no saving this case either, the only male does not look in good shape. Actually, one of the female northern white rhinos with the only male doesn't seem to have a genetic capacity to cut it in the wild, so even if they were to breed, the line would not be very fit.

Thats what I was speaking about, the N. White rhino. The male and females are under 24 hr protection by armed guards. Very sad to see..
