The Battles of Africa
Ranger report: Matimba vs Majingilane
..."Our drive was all about the Majingilane's vs Matimba lions.
It all started out with 4 x Matimba'a (male lions) calling from the south of baboon pan. Then all of a sudden we got four of them moving across gowrie main in a northerly direction. We parked on gowrie main wishing that they would come south again. Then suddenly we got lions calling just south of baboon pan, i waited and then got visual of three male lions coming north. It was the Majingilane's busy calling claiming there territory. The four Matimba's did not back down and started calling from the north and came south again face on with the Majingilanes. The Matimba males ran across gowrie main again and headed towards baboon pan where the Majingilane's were, but the Majingilane's tucked there tail under them a started to run south with the Matimba males right on there heels. The vocalisation was immense as they were all calling trying to claim the territory. We just waited on gowrie main, and it was not long before we got the Matimba males running north again with the Majingilanes hot on there tail's. This happened several times, it was like a ping pong battle. The Matimba males moved further north but still calling like crazy and the Majingilanes settled just south of baboon pan. Tired from the mornings affairs. With all that commotion this morning I'm sure the other Majingilane will be joining his brothers and the other two Matimba males will be joining there brothers. Maybe tonight will be interesting. Watch this space. Regards" by Cedric, Ranger at Nkorho - 1st August 2011

The Battles of Africa
Ranger report: Lion´s revenge
...One of the most exciting chapters of the Lion Kingdom was the war of three great coalitions for dominance over sabi sands. Rarely has an event been so widely reported as the bitter struggle of the Mapogos, Majingilanes and Selatis. The Mapogos were over years the uncrowned kings of Sabi Sands. A superpower of 6 lions conquered and terrorized the areas adjacent to the famous Kruger park for years. Many rival male lions lost their lives or fled to the great Kruger park. The revenge of the Mapogos was merciless and many prides were decimated or driven away. With the arrival of the five Majingilane males, one of the bloodiest episodes began. For months they approached the east where the two Mapogo brothers Kinky tail and Mr T did their mischief after they left the west and their 4 older brothers.
Two legendary battles took place in which the 5th Majingi and Kinky tail left their lives. The now lonely Mr T defended his pride and territory for weeks, but he had to retreat to his brothers in the west. Soon a showdown was imminent as the 5 Mapogos suddenly appeared in the territory now controlled by the Majingilane. To this day it is not clear what happened during those weeks, as Rasta Mapogo disappeared and Pretty boy Mapogo turned up with an injured back. A possible clash could not be documented, leading to speculation as to whether the mapogos and majingilanes had a real fight.
The 4 remaining Mapogos retreated to the west and the Majingilanes slowly expanded their rule in the east. When it was thought that another clash would take place at the end of 2010, Dreadlocks Mapogo suddenly disappeared.
Over the next few months, five brothers emerged from the south and became known as the Selatis. They came too close to the mapogos but were able to flee from the Mapogos at the last second, but when they were in the territory of the Majingilanes, they were spotted by them and one of them was killed. From then on, the Selatis remained quiet and inconspicuous. At the beginning of 2012, they caught Pretty boy Mapogo, who was on patrol alone. At the last moment, his brothers Makhulu and Mr T saved him. A short time later the last battle of the notorious Mr T mapogo took place and the Selatis conquered the west and drove out the last 2 Mapogos. After one of them, named Hank, died after an injury, the last 3 Selatis were driven more and more into a corner. In the end one of them was killed by the Majingilanes again and the 2 remaining Southern pride males left the area and migrated north to the Manyeleti area. The majingilanes were now the top formation and only the Matimbas from the North could be dangerous to them.

Does anyone know what had happened to the remaining five young male lions of Southern Pride after one was attacked by Majingilane lions in 2011 after they wandered onto Majingilane territory?

Throwback of one of the Mighty Majingilanes.
Turn up the volume and hear the legend of Africa announce his presence.

No matter what we wrote about this coalition, its achievements cannot be counted! This strong coalition made up of four brothers who defied the Mapogos, after they killed their fifth brother,, and killed one of the fiercest Mapogos members known as “Kinky Tail" and ate him as well, and expanded their territories until they ruled most parts of the Sabi Sands with the acquisition of a large number of prides and spread their genes well in all over.. Their dominance lasted from 2010, till 2018. In this clip that was taken in the final year of their reign of the famous Scar Nose lion. One of the legends of Sabi Sands..

Cool pictures that I haven't seen before. In that picture at the bottom, I think he looked more like Dark Mane, so maybe he was his litter mate?
And I think this male was reported to be the biggest and that he was the leader of the four other Majingilane males coaltion?

Had no idea he ever stood up, in fact in video of the fight, he tried to stand up and couldn't, his back legs appeared to not work. Not unlike Mr T with the Selatis, so this comes as a complete shock.
