RE: Amur tigers - sanjay - 03-01-2015

Fierce (Lyuti) was the first resident of the Utyos Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre (Khabarovsky krai, Russian Far East). Which is a wildlife orphanage, primarily for Russia's tiger and bear cubs.

In 1991, being a small orphaned cub, he was found by lumbermen. They tried to trap him and in the process broke his teeth. Therefore, Fierce (Lyuti) acquired artificial gilt canines. Otherwise he would have died from hunger.

He became famous for his teeth made of platinum and gold.

Since then, Fierce (Lyuti) has found shelter at the Utyos Centre. Local people as well as people from abroad fell in love with Fierce (Lyuti) sending donations to provide him with food and medical care.

Fierce (Lyuti) was often in the limelight and remains so even today! smile emoticon Russian and journalists from abroad produced a series of films and articles to promote Amur tiger conservation always featuring the Amur Tiger, Fierce!

Fierce was 21 years of age when he died in 2012. The tiger did not suffer from any disease, the tiger died of old age. As you may know, on average, tigers live for 10 to 15 years out in the wild and 16 to 20 years in captivity.

21 years old is a great age for a tiger, even in captivity.

Thanks for the data Sanjay, maybe you can provide us with a link, in case that we want to quote the age.

"Especially interesting to us that one of the fotolovušek captured the whole Tiger family: one after the other, treading in trail past the traps, passed the big tiger-male, followed by a female and three male cub. This is the first time for the Amur Tigers, which was able to confirm that in the wild, males are occasionally visited by his family, said Dale Miquelle, Director of the Russian Mission of the Society of wildlife conservation.

That is the biggest Amur male I've seen and those cubs are massive as well.

RE: Amur tigers - Pckts - 03-06-2015

Is this the first sighting of an Entire Amur Tiger family together?

RE: Amur tigers - Wanderfalke - 03-06-2015

Wow, probably the world has never seen such captures on photo. A whole amur family in all it´s beauty. Am I the only one just totally blown away by it? Speechless! Almost to good to be true. Loving it!

MANY THANKS for sharing

RE: Amur tigers - tigerluver - 03-06-2015

Is the male a bit closer to the camera, is he exceptionally big, or the female exceptionally small? I extropolated pixel ratios from that picture and compared to the female, his chest diameter is 30% greater and his body length 16% greater. That's a big difference, thus I ask whether the camera is playing tricks.

I would not think so and my reasoning is simple,

All big cats place their hind foot exactly where their front foot stepped, for two reasons:
1.Stealth when hunting prey
2.Because their paw has already dug out a trail in rough terrain

So that being said, in deep snow, its only safe to assume that a tiger would prefer to trek in prints that have already dug out a path in rough terrain.
I think he compares nicely to a large male next to a normal sized female. Its always impossible to know for sure, because females have quite a bit of difference between them just as males do.

Probably yes, But I am not sure. At least the source also claim this. And I have also never seen entire Amur Tiger (wild) All together. Often Indian Male tiger can be seen visiting their family but no any such historical sighting for Amur tiger
