Munna is a dominant male and probably one of the fiercist but don't mistaken his dominance for size, he's an average sized tiger over hyped and heavily riddled with fanaticism.

I agree.  Terms like "monster" are all too often used to describe average sized tigers.  For some reason a 400 pound big cat just isn't quite big enough anymore.

Nobody is giving weights!
How many times does this need to be said?

So lets use Copters logic...

"overratted??"

So if we throw away all the eye witness accounts and videos which all show and state Munna as being one of the largest or the largest tiger in Kahna (during his prime)
Nothing changes the fact that these images show him to be massive as well.
Funny these were not used during attempt to discredit Munna, but this debate is sealed.

On to the next one

RE: Overrated size of Munna aka Langda of Kanha National Park - Roflcopters - 08-17-2014

I haven't done my estimates in a while but let me just guess from the top of my head, bare with me folks.

190kg + 10kg if he gorges out some Gaur meat

*This image is copyright of its original author

give them some room, they look nice. I'd say 200kg male and 100kg for the female.

*This image is copyright of its original author

200kg for the male, 140kg for the female.. 60kg difference seems about right

A very average male tiger with cubs and wifey.. whoa

200 kilograms of Brute Force

wonder if he's going to attack an Elephant here, hope not. 190-200kg max

Alright, verdicts in.

RE: Overrated size of Munna aka Langda of Kanha National Park - Pckts - 08-18-2014

That settles that,  Your open mindedness really shined through here. We all should now bow to your amazing estimation skills that are far superior to all who have actual expierence with these big cats. Your word is gold and your points are flawless.

Great estimates when comparing as well.
"100kg female"
Who would of thought that kahna had such small tigers, I never knew Kahna was actually in Sumatra?!!
Of course the link female is 100kg, she has been quoted by so many as being a large female, I should of known that 100kg for her was the right weight estimate. Because large females are usually 100kg not 180-200kg?

This obviously proves you are wrong and are now being desperate. I'll take it as you admitting to be wrong.

Kshitij Degaonkar Fantastic! His neck and shoulders still seem to be in top shape despite the age... And we can see two half-broken canines.May 12 at 8:50am · Like · 1

Kanwar Deep Juneja he's a very smart tiger Kshitij Degaonkar, i spent 2 hrs 40 mins one day with him and we were mostly alone, so got an amazing opportunity to observe his behaviour!!! Impressive is an understatement… all in all i sighted him 4 times on this trip!!!

"Impressive is an understatement"

And we all know Kanwar to be a expert among experts. He's taken many tigers pictures over the years.

Check out the Canines and tongue, just shows the hard life this guy has lived and continued to live.

Kanwar wrote"Munna……..Age has not deterred him from being the most confident male in the park……"From Kanha NP"The light was somewhat harsh at this late morning sighting but, seeing Munna is like a dream come true each time"— at Kanha National Park."the signs of ageing are visible with broken canines and jagged tongue but, he continues to rule and excite the park visitors with his appearances! — at Kanha National Park."

Apparently Munna is still ruling Kahna or at least still fighting for it.

Kanwar again
"Kanwar Deep Juneja Will see if I can get Red-eye in the open when I go to Sarhi again Minh Ha ... He is very big and we mistook him for Munna first due to his size!"

Kanwar Deep Juneja "Yes min ha we mistook red eye for munna yesterday as light was low deep in the forest and only when I saw the photo on the computer i saw its not the king CAT of Kanha! I've photographerd munna many times in the past...here's on photo! "

"About the size, I've seen much bigger tigers in corbett and Kaziranga!!!! But not so easy to spot"

Also nothing new here, we all know Kaziranga has the largest tigers and I have heard that Corbett has monsters as well.

Quite honestly, I've seen many pictures of tigers who appear much larger.

RE: Overrated size of Munna aka Langda of Kanha National Park - Pckts - 08-19-2014

"Minh Ha Also Kanwar, not just kanha males, but kanha tigresses are extremely big and there are some always mistaken for males by tourists/photographers due to sheer size. While you're there, you might feel like checking out this Indri female of Kisli zone, she's so big she blocks the entire road here:

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/.../282090_2196048189691...

Unbelievable size for a female, bigger than most males. She's also an old tigress, must be way over 10 yo. Another giant tigress from Kanha here, this one is from kanha zone:

When tigresses are already this big, it makes us excited and eager to learn what the males will be like. I too intend to go to Kanha by year's end to see them for myself.

Kanwar Deep Juneja Yes Minh Ha met a huge tigress today in Kisli and saw her stalking n trying to hunt which failed! Then finally met Munna and spent some time with him... We were alone when we met munna and funny we met Munna sitting on the road from where we had seen the tigress less than an hour later!!! It was a 'Good Morning' indeed photos to follow soon

PS. You have to see some tigresses in corbett too and you'll be surpised at their size! I've often heard guides telling tourists that they are showing a rare male tiger when its a tigress we know about!"

I am curious now about Corbett Tigers. I wonder if they truly rival Kaziranga tigers as the Largest of all big cats.

How can you make such a assumption?
You don't know the shoulder height, body length or girth of them.
You simply go off a photo and assume, compared to Kanwar who literally sees 100s of tigers a year.
To say that you have seen larger tigers is true, I'm sure there are larger ones, Kaziranga and Corbett.
But Munna is now quoted by many people as being as large as Red Eye, Patewala or Naak Kata, that is proof that he is a massive. Or else you would be saying that Red Eye, Patewala and Naak Kata are all "overrated" as well?

Amen to that, now watch him bust his keyboard to prove his point.

200kg best for Munna imho, I've seen some South African Lions that appear larger than Munna, Gabbar, (present Saturn) etc etc.

please, do not bring that tiger vs lion nonsense here...

@amnon
Nobody is saying any weights. None of these claims are speaking about weights.
They are simply saying one tiger is the same size or larger than another. Something that is visible to the eye, usually. 2ndly, these are not just "photographers", lots work with the FD or the Location and provide the info you use.
So Vijay's opinion is meaningless because he is just a "photographer"?
Look at the contribution he has made in his short time, the great info provided on Ranthambhore tigers that we didnt know about.
A local with first hand expierence will always have more knowledge than somebody on the outside looking in. In terms of size.
You think you know how large a great white shark is because you see them on TV compared to somebody who swims with them?

So once again, nobody is talking about weights. Period!
We are talking about comparing sizes.
Whether exactly correct or slightly off, Munna is quoted by many qualified eye witnesses as being the same size, larger or smaller than Pattewala and Naak Kata.
That includes the Copters "friend" in which he quoted here.
So obviously there is nothing "overrated" about Munnas size.
He is large, plain and simple.

If you can't understand this, Im sorry.

Still vague...

I don´t say that Munna is not a big tiger - I just say that without any DATA this topic has no sense.
