...malayan tigers too (they are also encouraged to breed malayan tigers by grants). In my country (Czech) the numbers are:

1. numbers of zoos: 18 (without specialized zoos like parrot zoo or crocodile zoo)
2. number of zoos with amur tigers: 10
3. number of zoos with sumatran tigers: 3
4. number of zoos with malayan tigers: 2
5. number of zoos with bengal tigers (white): 2
6. number of zoos wiith african lions: 6
7. number of zoos with indian lions: 3
8. number of zoos with "barbary" lions: 3

Interesting. Probably this is new information, as the sources for the book of 2010 are in some cases from 2007.

Interesting that they still have white "Bengal" tigers and "Barbary" lions. Some people could say that is a bad use of resources, if they are not "pure", it could be.

Personally I´m not a fan of white tigers but I see that they are attractive for visitors. Barbary lions are not pure but I think they still have some value.

So they say that this bengal tigress is 178 kg. I think it could be true, she appears to be quite big

This book was written by a grizzly bear enthusiast and Viet Nam verteran; copyright 1990.~Grizzly Years by Doug Peacock. The most serious health problem in the district was tigers. Every dark, rainy night a half dozen tigers came into Ba Hiep and ate water buffalo. The tigers came in groups of four to seven, the Yards said, and killed the buffalo in their pens. Water buffalo were normally tethered outside the village limits. But these Montagnards were an animistic people and the buffalo was their noblest animal. The Hre were quite naturally terrified of tigers coming down from the hills on black nights, and they huddled by their cooking fires in bamboo houses on stilts while the roars and bellows of dying buffalo filled the darkness all around. The Ba Hiep Yards became so afraid of losing their animals, they brought the buffalo right into the village and tied them to their front porches. The health problem was that the entire village was five inches deep in buffalo crap. It contaminated the village well and gave everyone the shits. Hookworm and other parasites were epidemic. The Yard kids all walked around on stilts. I got my jeep stuck in it once. The medical solution might have been to ambush a tiger or two, though tigers and Charlie tended to be out on the same nights.

Paris. 7yo, around 220 kg (weighted). Paris may look little fat, but at the foto he is after lunch. In fact Paris is pure muscle.

Damn what a beast. Look at the size of his forearms. Beautiful pic Amnon.

RE: Indian and Indo-Chinese tigers - Amnon242 - 09-19-2015

When the Zoo told me that he is around 220 kg I thought "so this is what average bengal looks like...what about extra large bengals...omg" :-)

RE: Indian and Indo-Chinese tigers - Amnon242 - 09-19-2015

Paris is massive and agressive.

RE: Indian and Indo-Chinese tigers - Amnon242 - 09-19-2015

He may look rather small at this foto, but this is caused by the angle...

That's a handsome tiger! He looks very built. The captive tigers I've seen on the east coast of the US need what he's been eating.

As I said before - this tiger is pure muscle. To me he looked like he has not a single gram of fat...
