But still, it is not an easy task even for a mighty Tiger to kill a fully grown Indian Wild Gaur, four to five times its own size. For any carnivores animal in the forest, an Indian Wild Gaur is no doubt, a formidable opponent. Their menacing horns can lethally impale a Tiger or a Lion in a nasty faceoff situation. The picture below was taken from the Mudumalai forest in Tamil Nadu a few days ago. We were told by our forest guide that they have received an information that the evening before a tiger had killed a mighty wild gaur a few miles inside the dense forest. As we were inching closer to the place where our forest guide told us the carcass had rested, we were in fact listening for any sound that would give us some indication about the presence of the Tiger who could have killed the Gaur last night and would certainly be guarding the kill, sitting somewhere in the proximity and we knew, he wouldn’t take kindly to our approach either. Later when we reached the spot, we could see the area was trampled with thick clumps broken like twigs. It was clear that both the beasts, one, the largest of all wildcats in the world and the other, the largest of all the wild cattle species had not backed out a little and it was a titanic battle between both. Whenever these two mighty animals fight each other, the outcome is not certain. Sometimes the Tiger will win and sometimes not. We waited there for a few minutes, watching the massive carcass and admiring the power of this mighty bovine. When we left the scene, feeling dejected by the whole episode, we knew, this is exactly the nature’s way of balancing the ecosystem or in other words, it's about the 'survival of the fittest....'. dec 26 2019 RE: Tiger Predation - Pckts - 01-20-2020 Pratik Mahapatra The Majesty on the Move... It was our afernoon safari in Kanha on January 13, 2018. We set out from the resort to our desired safari at Kanha Zone. We had got our guide Mallu Singh Yadav and driver Kailash Kherhwarhey along with us. Mallu Ji's tracking power is something to be chiefly recongnised. We entered to the territory of Bajrang (KTR T-65). An adult gaur was reported to be killed by Bajrang a couple of days ago but we found nothing but the carcass. Later, we moved on to Manglu Tirrah and ever graceful Naina or Link-8 Female (KTR T-76) was reported to be nearby. Personally, the greatest moment to me was her delightful appearance when she crossed the meadow. The golden shine of sunset was glittering all over the grassland. She came from the left side of the meadows where we had been waiting. A herd of spotted deer frantically screamed the alarm call. And after coming to the opposite side, the sharp calls of barashingas are never to be forgotten. Being a first ever visitor to the jungle, I was lucky enough to frame both the moments of alarm calls in one shooting. Here is but a rough instance of that moment... https://www.facebook.com/pratik.mahapatra.96/videos/998141233669024/ RE: Tiger Predation - Apollo - 01-22-2020 I think Ranthambore sub-adult tigers like to play with sloth bears RE: Tiger Predation - Apollo - 01-23-2020 Arrowhead tigress hunting RE: Tiger Predation - Apollo - 01-29-2020 Khumbha (T34) feeding on its kill RE: Tiger Predation - Rage2277 - 02-03-2020 RE: Tiger Predation - Apollo - 02-06-2020 T57 feeding on sambar kill in zone 1, Ranthambore. |
